Application 2009

To apply for BEAM, you must complete BOTH the Michigan State Office of Study Abroad (OSA) general application located at the Study Abroad applications website, and the BEAM supplemental application (download RTF). You may email this completed form to Leslie Curren (currenle@msu.edu). Non-MSU students must also complete the BEAM supplemental application, but there is an application specific to Non-MSU students also located at the Study Abroad applications website.
Although OSA's deadline for general applications is not until March 1, PLEASE NOTE that BEAM's deadline for BOTH the general application AND the supplemental application is December 1, 2009. We begin reviewing applications on December 1 and admit students on a rolling basis. Due to the small class size and historic popularity of the program, BEAM usually fills up long before the OSA general applications are due.
After applications are reviewed in December, applicants will be interviewed by the three course instructors in January, and final selections will be made by January 31. Applicants are evaluated and considered for admission based on the eligibility criteria for this program and NOT necessarily on a first-come, first-served basis. When evaluating applicants, we take the following information into account:
- overall GPA
- GPA in related courses
- writing ability
- personal interview
- information from supplemental application
***Please note that your application will NOT be reviewed until ALL materials have been submitted. A $100 application fee is required. Students will receive a bill from the MSU Student Accounts Office for the application fee that is applied to the cost of the program and is non-refundable once a student has accepted admission into the program. Students who have accepted admission may also be billed for a non-refundable and non-transferable $200 deposit, also applied to the cost of the program. Students who wish to withdraw their application are required to notify the Office of Study Abroad, in writing, that they no longer intend to participate. Detailed information about application procedures, the acceptance process, pre-departure orientation, on-site logistics, and returning home will be provided in the Student Handbook (given to students upon submission of their application). You can also find the Student Handbook on the OSA students site.
If you have any questions, please email Leslie Curren at currenle@msu.edu.
