BEAM Instructors

For 2010, the three instructors will be Leslie Curren, Andrew Flies, and Eli Swanson. Instructors are from the Department of Zoology at Michigan State University. All instructors have a wide range of research and field experience, including time studying hyenas in the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Instructors have spent time living and conducting research in Kenya.
Leslie is currently in Kenya collecting data for her dissertation on spotted hyena sexual selection. This past summer she co-taught the BEAM course. In the past she designed and was the instructor of Ecology (ZOL 355), and was an assistant instructor for Marine Biology (ZOL 353) and Evolution (ZOL 445).


Leslie Curren
Andy is currently in Michigan using blood and tissue samples collected in Kenya to analyze several aspects of the spotted hyena immune system. He has previously spent nine months living in Kenya working on the MSU Hyena Research Project. Andy will be returning to Kenya in early 2010 to continue his dissertation research and prepare for the arrival of the BEAM students. He has previously been the lab instructor for Organisms and Populations (BS110) .
